One was a collection of X-Men (plus Magneto), Avengers, and the Fantastic Four; the other featured Dr. Doom, Galactus, and other top Marvel villains. Both squads were deposited on an alien world created from bits and pieces of earth and other planets. They were pitted against each other by the omnipotent Beyonder with the promise of an ultimate reward to the victor.
